Days Gone Remastered Review — A Gritty Ride Reborn

Days Gone was always a bit of a misunderstood gem—rough at launch, but full of heart. Now, with the remastered version, this post-apocalyptic biker story gets a second chance to roar down the highway, and honestly? It earns it.

Released for PlayStation 5 and PC, Days Gone Remastered brings updated visuals, improved performance, and a few quality-of-life tweaks that make the world feel more alive—and more dangerous—than ever.

Story

You play as Deacon St. John, a former outlaw biker trying to survive in a world overrun by zombie-like creatures called Freakers. But the real strength of the story isn’t the apocalypse—it’s Deacon himself.

  • A gritty, emotional journey centered on loss, loyalty, and survival.

  • Strong voice acting and character writing help sell the emotional weight.

  • Oregon’s wild, forest-heavy backdrop feels like a character of its own.

If you missed it the first time, this is the version you want to play.

Gameplay & Exploration

At its core, Days Gone is a mix of third-person action, open-world exploration, and survival elements. The remaster doesn’t reinvent gameplay, but it smooths out the edges.

  • Combat feels more responsive thanks to increased frame rates.

  • Motorcycle mechanics are still central—and still awesome.

  • Stealth and crafting are essential to survival and feel more refined.

There’s something very satisfying about clearing out a Freaker nest or riding full throttle into a horde.

Visuals &Performance updates

The remaster looks sharp—really sharp.

  • Runs at 4K resolution with up to 60 FPS on PS5 and supported PCs.

  • Textures are noticeably cleaner, lighting has more depth, and draw distance is improved.

  • Load times are vastly reduced compared to the original.

This is how Days Gone was meant to look and feel.

Sound &Atmosphere

The world of Days Gone wouldn’t be the same without its haunting soundscape.

  • The ambient sounds—howls in the night, distant groans—still create real tension.

  • The remastered audio is clearer, and surround sound support adds immersion.

  • Soundtrack ranges from soft acoustic guitar to high-stakes combat tracks.

You’ll feel the danger, even when you can’t see it yet.

New features & Upgrades

While not a full remake, the remaster adds a few notable improvements:

  • DualSense features on PS5: Adaptive triggers and haptic feedback add immersion.

  • Improved AI and slight tuning to horde behavior.

  • All previously released DLC is included.

It’s not a total overhaul, but it’s a meaningful upgrade for both new and returning players.

Our opinion

Days Gone Remastered doesn’t change the core of what the game is—but it perfects it. What was once a flawed but lovable experience is now a polished and deeply engaging journey through a brutal, beautiful world.

Whether you're revisiting or riding with Deacon for the first time, this version is absolutely worth the ride.
