Sony Acquires Arrowhead Game Studios After Helldivers II Success

After the smash success of Helldivers II, Sony has pulled the trigger: they’ve officially acquired Arrowhead Game Studios. The studio’s live-service hit not only crushed sales expectations but also built a rabid player base in record time. Sony saw the potential—and bought the whole operation.

This isn’t just about one game. Sony is clearly investing in live-service infrastructure, a category it previously lagged behind in. With Bungie already in-house, adding Arrowhead gives PlayStation a two-pronged assault against Xbox’s Game Pass ecosystem.

Arrowhead will continue to operate independently (for now), but sources say they’re already staffing up for a new sci-fi IP that’s "massive in scope and multiplayer-driven."

Sony is no longer just the king of cinematic single-player. They’re playing long-term games now—literally.
